L-Functionals and Infrared Problem in Quantum Electrodynamics
Albert Schwarz, UC Davis & Caltech,

In the case of an infinite number of degrees of freedom there exist representations of canonical commutation relations that are not equivalent to Fock representation. In particular, in QED  the  state of dressed electron does not belong to the standard Fock space; this is the main source of infrared divergences. I suggested representing  states by some functionals (L-functionals) that  are well defined for every vector or, nore generally, every density matrix in any representation of CCR. Any quantum theory obtained by quantization of classical theory can be formulated in terms of L-functionals. I will explain how to construct a diagram technique in the formalism of

L-functionals for calculation of inclusive cross sections that does not suffer from infrared divergences.

The talk is in 469 Lauritsen.
