Research
The Walter Burke Institute for Theoretical Physics promotes research in all areas of theoretical physics and encourages cross-disciplinary collaborations. It provides resources to theorists in the following research units:
- High energy physics
- Condensed matter physics and quantum information
- Astrophysics including relativity and cosmology
These researchers aim to discover fundamental laws of nature and to understand natural phenomena at all scales. Astrophysics theorists and high energy theorists are collaborating to explain the mysterious matter and energy that make up most of the cosmos, to describe the evolution of the universe, and to understand the nature of gravity and spacetime. High energy theorists and condensed matter theorists are sharing their ideas to develop new theoretical tools for the quantum world. Condensed matter theorists and quantum information theorists are working together to unleash the power of quantum computation. These seemingly diverse goals are intertwined in the eyes of physicists.
