Unveiling Physics Beyond the Standard Model with Gravitational Waves
Jean Schütte-Engel,
UC Berkeley & RIKEN,
Gravitational waves emitted in the early universe have the potential to reveal physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) at ultra-high energies. In this talk, I will first show that the gravitational waves emitted from the thermal plasma encode information about new particles beyond the SM, the maximum temperature of the hot Big Bang, and quantum gravity effects. In the second part of this talk, I will discuss the gravitational wave signatures from the out-of-equilibrium decay of heavy particles in the early universe. I will conclude by discussing the detection prospects for the mentioned gravitational wave signals.
The talk is in 469 Lauritsen.
