ABSTRACT: In this two-part talk we consider planetary systems on > 50 au and < 1 au scales. Far out, the hunt is on for the protoplanets suspected to carve the gaps imaged in circumstellar disks. How bright these planets are, and what they will grow to become, depend on their gas accretion rates. We lay out how the runaway phase of gas accretion unfolds and calculate the broadband spectral energy distributions of accreting planets. Close-in, systems of multiple sub-Neptunes are common. We explore how their distribution of orbital period ratios, together with the (often overlooked) phase shifts of their transit time variations, record their collisional histories.
