Geometric Approach to Quantum Theory
Albert Schwarz,
UC Davis & Caltech,
I will talk about a geometric approach to quantum theory where the primary notion
is the set of states. This approach leads to far reaching generalization of
quantum theory. I will describe a large class of theories that can be obtained from
classical mechanics if we assume that our devices can measure only some
observables; the conventional quantum mechanics belongs to this class.
If a theory has translational invariance one can introduce a notion of particle
and analyze scattering of particles but the conventional scattering matrix
should be replaced by inclusive scattering matrix closely related to inclusive cross sections.
The talk is in 469 Lauritsen.
